Would you like to be involved in the E-PAtS RCT?

What is the E-PAtS RCT about?
We want to find out if E-PAtS helps to improve the wellbeing of parents/caregivers of children with additional developmental needs and has benefits for their child’s development and behaviour.

In the E-PAtS study, approximately 230 families will be randomly selected to take part in an E-PAtS group and complete some questionnaires on different occasions over a period of 12-months.

Other families will be randomly selected to be in a waiting list control group (approximately 230 families).  This second group of families will not take part in an E-PAtS group straightaway, they will also be asked to complete the questionnaires, and will have an opportunity to take part in an E-PAtS group at a later point (in around a year’s time).

All families will continue to access any other supports that are already available to them.

What does it involve?
All parents/carers who take part will be asked to complete questionnaires at three different times over a period of 12-months, whether they receive E-PAtS now or 12 months later. These questionnaires may take around 40 minutes to complete.

Parents/carers cannot be paid for taking part in the study, but each can receive up to £60 worth of vouchers for completing questionnaires.

Who can take part?
The E-PAtS RCT is for family carers who are 18 or over and care for a child with additional developmental needs.

This could mean a child who has a learning disability or a global developmental delay. It might also be a child who does not yet have a diagnosis but has a number of additional needs.

To take part in the study the child you care for needs to be between 18 months and 5 years of age, so not yet 6.
Up to 2 adult parents/carers from your family can take part in the study.
