What is E-PAtS?

Early Positive Approaches  to Support (E-PAtS) is a parent/carer support programme for families of young children (no younger than 18 months, and not yet 6 years of age) with additional developmental needs (sometimes referred to as intellectual disabilities, developmental delays or learning disabilities).

E-PAtS is co-produced. It is designed by and run by families and practitioners working together. In E-PAtS, parents and carers are always recognised as experts.

E-PAtS provides an opportunity for parents/carers to connect and share experiences in a supportive environment, gain information and build on practical strategies to support their family.  The parents/carers are adult family members who support a child with additional needs. In E-PAtS, parents/carers are supported in a face to face group by a trained parent/carer and practitioner facilitator over 8 (2.5 hour) sessions.

E-PAtS sessions cover:

  • How to access support services;

  • Support for parent/carer wellbeing;

  • Supporting sleep for children;

  • Supporting communication and everyday skills for children;

  • Positive ways to support behaviours that challenge.
